Marginal: A New Wall Drawing Environment

Friesen Galleries, Northwest Nazarene University, Nampa, ID, Oct. 28, 2011 – Jan. 27, 2012,

The new wall drawing environment Marginal populates the gallery’s interstitial spaces with a wallpaper pattern by the Victorian designer and botanist, Dr. Christopher Dresser. The artist replaced parts of Dresser’s pattern with drawings of individual Arabidopsis thaliana plants – the first plant to ever have its genome sequenced. The wallpaper pattern appears like a curtain, pushing through from another time, and anchored in place by this small plant that formed the modern basis to understand genetic pattern in the plant kingdom.
