Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, June 10 – Oct. 23, 2011
Ornament and Architecture is a new large-scale wall drawing environment commissioned for the 2011 Pittsburgh Biennial. The work entitled Ornament and Architecture fills four walls and the ceiling of the gallery. This immersive drawing employs quotes from wallpaper motifs designed by Victorian designer and botanist Dr. Christopher Dresser grafted together with individual and sometimes damaged images of plant specimens that relate to the idealized motif. The breathtakingly detailed yet temporary full-room drawing presides over the space like a hall of effigies.
